‘Good Boy’ Director Tom Stuart Discusses His Directorial Debut, Grief, and Elvis Presley
Tom Stuart starts a new journey with his directorial debut, the Oscar-shortlisted for Best Live Action Short and BAFTA-qualifying Good Boy. Screened at several British and international festivals, including the Aesthetica and Leeds Film Festival, the film narrates the story of Danny (Ben Whishaw), who attempts to rob a bank after receiving an eviction notice, and his mother, the boisterous Jackie (Marion Bailey), who’s cheering him on from the backseat. Stuart crafts a bittersweet and heartfelt tribute to his late mother, and it will sweep the rug from underneath your feet just when you think you know where it’s going.
I sat down with Tom to discuss everything from grief to love and funny paraphernalia.
